Aldolase

Aldolase is an enzyme which is essential for the conversion of glucose (sugar) into energy. This energy conversion process is known as glycolysis. The aldolase enzyme is usually found in many parts of the body, but is present in high concentrations in the skeletal muscles and the liver. The Aldolase test is used to determine the concentration of aldolase in the serum.


Why is the test ordered?

The test may be ordered to help detect, diagnose and monitor muscle damage or liver damage.

How is the sample collected?

A blood sample is collected from a vein in the arm.

How to prepare for the test?

The doctor might instruct the person taking the test to refrain from eating and drinking anything for up to 8 to 10 hours before the test. Any physical activity or exercise is also not advisable before the test. It is better to inform the doctor about all the medicines that the patient is taking.
