GASTRIN - SERUM

A peptide hormone called gastrin is produced by mucosal G cells of gastric antrum. Gastrinoma indicates increased levels of gastrin. This test helps in investigating patients with Zollinger, Ellison and achlorhydria syndrome. It is considered as one of the preferred tests for diagnosing gastrinoma.


How to prepare for the test?

Drugs like labetalol, alpha one blockers, beta blockers, nicotine, vasodilato, aspirin, thyroxin, vigorous exercise, cigarette smoking, aminophylline, ephedrine and phenothiazine should be strictly avoided 72 hours prior to the specimen collection.
