MANGANESE,BLOOD

Manganese is one of the trace elements found in several enzymes. Exposure to high dosage of the element could lead to toxicity. The test is used to evaluate diseases such as Parkinson's in people who mine or process Manganese . The test is also useful in therapeutic monitoring of Cirrhosis, environmental exposure to manganese as well as toxicity caused due to nutrition. The test is also useful in evaluating Behcet's disease and is used while monitoring the therapy.

How to prepare for the test?

Avoid vitamins, mineral or herbal supplements one week prior to specimen collection. Specimen should not be collected for 96 hours if Gadolinium or Iodine containing contrast media has been administered. Use only specified containers available from LPL.
