Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to disability, a poor quality of life, or even a deadly heart attack or stroke.</p> <p>Incidence: One in four adults in India suffers from hypertension and only 10% of patients have their blood pressure under control, according to a report by the India Council for Medical Research.</p>

<p> <strong>Q1. What are the consequences of hypertension? </strong> </p><p>If high blood pressure is not reduced to normal values, then it can cause damage to the brain, heart, eyes or kidneys. This damage may prove fatal or cause permanent disability. </p><p> <strong>Q2. Who suffers most from hypertension? </strong> </p><p>Uncontrolled high blood pressure is common; however, certain groups of people are more likely to have control over their high blood pressure than others. A greater percentage of men (50%) have high blood pressure than women (44%). </p>
