Influenza A virus or flu virus is prominent during flu season and spreads quickly. Physicians usually diagnose patients based on typical flu like symptoms during a flu season. The signs and symptoms include fever, headache, weakness, sore throat, stuffy nose, cough, chills and muscle pain.

A cotton swab is used to collect sample. A healthcare professional will rub a cotton swab up the nose or along the throat to collect the fluid rich in the virus. The sample is collected, packed and send to the lab for testing.
