Inhibin B

The inhibin hormone is produced by the ovaries in females and the testes in males. These hormones are normally produced during pregnancy by the placenta abnormally in ovarian cancer. Both, inhibins A and B help, regulate pregnancy. Their levels are important for a healthy pregnancy and the healthy development of a fetus. Therefore, the levels of inhibin B are measured along with inhibin A help to evaluate the health of the developing fetus as well as to diagnose ovarian cancer. Inhibin B is also used as a marker of ovarian reserve.


Why is the test ordered?

An inhibin B test is helpful in the diagnosis of ovarian cancers. It may also be useful as a diagnostic aid alongside FSH for infertility assessment. The test is also used to evaluate the possibility of any complications arising during a pregnancy.

How is the sample collected?

A blood sample is collected from a vein in the arm.
